HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY
Turner Family Support Center (TFSC) was developed by Rumford Group
Homes, Inc. in conjunction with Western Crisis Services, a consortium
of four agencies providing an array of mental health services in
the Tri-County area of Maine. These agencies include Rumford Group
Homes, Inc., Tri-County Mental Health, Evergreen Behavioral Services,
and Greater Rumford Alliance for the Mentally III. TFSC works as
a responsive and responsible crisis stabilization program to increase
support services and minimize the need for expensive and unnecessary
hospitalizations while increasing the emphasis on prevention.
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Turner Family Support Center (TFSC) is to provide
crisis stabilization to reduce psychiatric hospitalizations. Families
residing in Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford Counties are given
priority for our services. We will work with families who do not
reside in the Tri-County area as staffing permits. TFSC offers responsive,
community based services which respect the dignity of individuals
and families. It is our goal to enhance the families' natural support
systems to assist them in dealing with crises in the least intrusive
manner.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
TFSC is a hospital diversion program for both boys and girls, ages
5 -17, experiencing crisis. We are designed to be child-centered,
family focused, and community based. Our work with clients is geared to intervene
in order to assist children and families with coping strategies
to use during crises in their homes. In this way, we empower families
to develop and utilize adaptive skills to prevent crises.
We operate a licensed mental health program centrally located in the Tri-County area. TFSC offers children a nurturing environment in which
crisis stabilization, daily living skills, including educational support and recreational opportunities,
are provided. This Turner, Maine site has trained staff available
24 hours a day to provide crisis stabilization including guidance in the expression of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, as well as behavior and medication monitoring.
A maximum of four children may stay in our coed home for up to
seven days. While in the stabilization home, TFSC staff provides a structured,
well-supervised, supportive living environment. Family members/guardians
are encouraged and expected to actively participate in developing
service plans and transitional support to benefit their child's individual needs.
"Children must have at least one person who believes
in them. It could be a counselor, a teacher, a preacher, a friend.
It could be you. You never know when a little love, a little
support, will plant a small seed of hope."
- Marian Wright Edelman "The Measure Of Our Success"
