Program Description
The Leeds Home is a six-bed residential facility, located
in Leeds, Maine, serving children and youth ages 5 - 18 years of
age. The program operates 7 days per week, 24 hours per day. The
program serves both boys and girls and is designed to be a temporary
placement for up to 6 months. The Leeds Home serves
children and youth throughout the state of Maine, but emphasis
is
given on the Tri-County area (Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford
counties).
The Leeds Home is a licensed mental health facility through the Department of Health and Human Services and offers individual and family therapy both on-site and in the family's home.
The Leeds Home provides a nurturing, caring environment while assessing a child's need for a compatible placement. The program matches the needs of the child to a licensed foster home, adoptive placement, residential care facility, or reunification with family in conjunction with the child's caseworker.
The program philosophy is to minimize the trauma to the youth after being removed from their primeary pacememnt and to provide for a smooth transition to another appropriate placement. The program provides an alternative to returning a child toa mentaive home environment or as a bustitute for a non-existent home environment.
The goal of the program is to provide a continuity of care, a safe environment, and the opportunity to live a structured and supervised life, while awaiting a more permanent placement in the least restrictive setting based on the child/youth's needs.
Children at the Leeds Home participate in an educational plan as outlined in the child's Individual Treatment Plan, which is focused on the strengths and needs of the child. Children/youth are transported to their local school when appropriate and others receive tutorial services to keep the child/youth up-tp-date in their educational plan. Every child/youth's educational program is in accordance with the Department of Education regulations.
The program is staffed with a Program Director, Case Manager, licensed Clinician, and certified OQMHP Youth Workers. It maintains a very high staff to child ration. Staff have experience and/or educational background in working with at-risk children/youth and are committed to the provision of a high quality of care to the children/youth served. The program offers a highly structured routine that the staff has designed specifically to provide a safe, secure and nurturing environment in which residents can grow and flourish.
