MISSION STATEMENT
The Roy House Treatment Program is a community based residential
treatment program located in Dixfield, Maine. The Roy House Treatment
Program serves males aged 8-years through 14-years who are diagnosed
with an Axis I Mental Health Diagnosis. We specialize in the treatment
of youth who are displaying a variety of symptomology that may
include disruptive behaviors, aggression, sexualized behaviors,
impulsive behaviors, fire setting, suicidal ideation, mood disorders,
enuresis, encopresis, and anxiety disorders.
The Roy House Treatment Program provides comprehensive treatment
to children, and their families, with a variety of mental health
and behavioral issues.
The predicted outcome of treatment is that the child will return
to his community with the self-awareness and skills to manage his
behavior in socially accepted ways.
This goal will be achieved through primary psychotherapeutic treatment
as well as residential care provided in a healthy environment.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Roy House Treatment Program is a six-bed residential program
located in Dixfield, Maine in Oxford County. We are licensed as
a Mental Health program through the State of Maine. The program
provides a safe, structured therapeutic program that assist children
in developing healthy coping skills and appropriate boundaries.
Length of stay is determined by the individual needs of each child
and their family.
There are three distinct components to our program: therapeutic,
residential, and educational. The therapeutic component provides
clear boundaries for appropriate behavior through therapeutic programming
and groups. The residential care component provides a warm, home-like
environment as a means of fostering positive behaviors and growth.
The educational component provides elementary instruction for each
resident appropriate to the child’s age and skill ability.
TREATMENT COMPONENT
The Roy House Treatment Program utilizes a trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral
treatment model. This therapeutic philosophy is based on the connection
between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. We also practice relationship
based treatment and believe that the therapeutic relationship between
the child, his family, providers, and the program is essential
to his growth, self-esteem, and progress towards treatment goals.
Our goal is to help the child stabilize his behavior and begin
to experience a sense of safety, and an improved sense of self.
Out long-term goal is to discharge the child back to his community,
or other less restrictive environment, and to provide the child
with the foundation to grow into an emotionally healthy adult.
Each child participates in structured psycho-educational groups
that are designed to provide education, support, and treatment
regarding the use of coping skills, healthy boundaries, expression
of feelings, and the building of self-esteem. Each child is offered individual therapy at least twice per week.
Families are encouraged to be an active and vital part of their
child’s treatment at the Roy House Treatment Program. The
program’s clinician is available to meet with parents and
to establish family goals as well as discharge plans.
A Child Psychiatrist provides psychiatric services on-site. Psychiatric
services include monthly medication management, crisis assessment,
individual comprehensive evaluations, and consultation. The Child
Psychiatrist meets individually with each child and is available
to consult with parents, legal guardians, or providers during the
scheduled appointments.
RESIDENTIAL COMPONENT
The Roy House Treatment Program is a single-family home located
in a rural community setting. The warm, home-like atmosphere provides
a nurturing environment as a means for positive behavior and growth.
Board and care are provided by direct care staff that are trained
to care for children who have emotional and behavioral difficulties.
Children are provided with clear boundaries for appropriate behaviors.
A behavior modification system is incorporated to encourage positive
behavior in the day-to-day routine. There are specific rules to
follow as a means of developing respect for themselves and others.
In addition to the kitchen, living, dining room, and living/family
room, each child has his own bedroom, and the private use of shared
bathrooms. There is a recreation room on-site, providing an environment
for safe, structured recreational activities.
Youth Workers are involved in teaching the children through modeling.
Trained Youth Workers provide the day-to-day treatment in a growth-promoting
atmosphere that encourages diversity, learning, and relationships.
These caregivers work from a relationship-based model in an effort
to provide the highest quality of services to the residents of
the Roy House Treatment Program.
The Roy House Treatment Program is a Mental Health program and
is licensed through the Department of Health and Human Services
as a Children’s Residential Treatment Facility.
EDUCATIONAL COMPONENT
The Roy House Day Treatment School is certified by the
Maine Department of Education (MDOE). We utilize approved curriculum
materials and carry out the program with all regulations of the
MDOE.
The children participating in our school program are often children
who find it extremely difficult to attend public school and have
struggled in traditional school settings.
The Roy House Day Treatment Program School provides an educational
program within a separate building on the grounds. All children
that enter the residential treatment facility at the Roy House
Treatment Program have a Pupil Evaluation Team meeting set up through
the local public school district, SAD #21. A determination is made
at that time as to the least restrictive setting to best meet the
child’s educational needs. Some students may spend all day
at the Roy House Treatment Program School, others may transition
to the local public school for specific classes or specials, and
still others may attend the local public school on a full time
basis.
The Roy House Treatment Program School is licensed by the State of Maine's Department of Education.
